Cross into Tajikistan and Dushanbe, the nation’s capital, for a brief stop en route back into Uzbekistan and Bukhara, the holiest city in Central Asia. With over a thousand architectural monuments in the middle of the Kyzylkum Desert, Bukhara is renowned for its historic sites, from the Kalyan minaret at Po-i-Kalyan Mosque to the Samanid Mausoleum and the Ark Citadel from the 5th century.
